Sol takes the stage in La Jolla

Written by Emily Shaw

Sol is the stage name of a Seattle, WA-based emcee. In 2012, he garnered fame for his album “Yours Truly,” which snagged the number 1 spot on the U.S. iTunes hip-hop charts upon its release.

Despite his success, Sol decided to take a time-out, spending the last year traveling around Ethiopia, India, South Africa, Brazil and Haiti.

But now he’s back, with brand new music and a recently announced West Coast tour. The new EP is titled Eyes Open, to be released this fall. The new music sees Sol back in action with his old producers and collaborating musicians, including names such as Nima Skeemz, Elan Wright and DJ Nphared.

The autumn tour will be the artist’s first time headlining. Sol will be stopping by for a performance at UC San Diego’s performance space, The Loft in La Jolla, on Saturday, September 28th. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $6 for UCSD students. Purchase yours soon to see the up-and-coming artist – because who knows: Sol may just sneak out of the country for another year!

To see Sol’s counterpart up-and-comers in the world of visual art, be sure to stop by La Jolla’s Thumbprint Gallery. The gallery is located at 920 Kline Street and features contemporary, urban, lowbrow, and graffiti art from local artists. It is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
